Product information

Installation
When it comes to installing your product, there are four
different techniques depending on its style:
Wall Mounted
There are a number of holes pre-drilled which can be capped
off with an oak dowel to hide the screws. All screws and dowels are provided.
To install, we suggest screwing the screws through the product until the tips
are showing. Then, gently place over the wall and push the sign into the position
when you are happy. The tips of the screws should have left a mark, this is where
you need to drill (if wall / stone) or simply just drive the screw into wood.
Small Push in Posts
Firstly, decide your location and hover over your chosen
spot, gently pushing the legs into the ground enough to leave a mark. Then,
with a pole or bar (or even the end of a broom handle) make the holes where you
made the imprints. We recommend making the holes a little deeper than needed. Next,
gently push the legs into the holes, pushing one leg at a time but not too far
each time until you are satisfied that the sign is level.
Ground Spikes
Ground spikes can be hit into the ground in a few ways: either
find a pole to make a small hole into the ground, then push the spike into that
hole. Or alternatively, find a small log/piece of wood which fits into the
spike holder and hammer that into the ground with a sledgehammer. Once all the
way into the ground, place the product into the holder using the pieces of oak
spacers if required and then tighten the bolts, squeezing the post into its
final position.
Dig in Posts
Make a hole with a pole or bar (or even the end of a broom
handle), and then push the post into the hole. If you don’t have a bar/pole
then dig a hole that fits the post.
The next part may require two people: one person holds the
sign straight whilst the other person fills in the hole. Fill in the hole a
little bit at a time and keep compacting the soil with the end of your shovel
or something flat.
We always recommend a little bit of cement if you would like
more of the sign showing and less in the ground. A great way of doing this is
to dig a wide shallow hole. Place the product in the middle using stakes, rope to
make sure it stays straight and will not fall over, then make your damp cement
mix (not too much water if the soil is already wet). Finally, pour it into the
hole but leave a good 5cm from the top to allow the soil and grass to cover it
again.
Maintaining my Oak
The oak ranges in from seasoned to semi-seasoned depending
on the product being created. For signs, it’s best to use a damper (green) oak
so that it is able to adjust to the local climate more naturally. Alternatively,
for indoor furniture we use seasoned oak so that it won’t crack or split
as much as a wet piece of oak.
As Oak is a natural material, there can be many
characteristics such as knots, cracks or small splits which we think adds to
the character and charm of the product, enhancing its appeal. However, we will of
course replace an item if the crack or split is causing the product to become
damaged in a way that affects it’s function.
The Oak goes through three courses of sanding from 80 to 120
and then finally 320 grit sandpaper, leaving it with a smooth finish. The oak
is then oiled with a superior Danish oil that stops UV damage to the oak and
keeps the wood a classic deep brown colour. Without this oil, the oak turns a beautiful
natural silver. Please let us know if you don’t want the item oiled and then
you can allow it to turn silver faster.
If it is oiled, then we suggest rubbing in a little more oil
every time the oak starts to look like its changing colour. This should
normally be once during summer when it starts to dry out. It’s a very quick and
easy bit of maintenance, simply add oil to a rag and rub it into the sign. We
suggest using any wood oil that has a UV protection such as Danish oil.
